Anna Chicherova the 29 yr old Russian jumper, originally from Armenia and coached by her father, won the Diamond league in Brussels. She cleared a world leading 2.05m and entertained the crowd with 3 great attempts and 2.10m, a new world record. This is a rare treat these days for jumps fans. Its been a few years since Blanka Vlasic had a go at 2.10m outdoors. She looked physically tired, with a very sore achilles and under performed in the same competition. The Bulgarian´s hold the record at 2.09m and with Russian´s Ivan Ukov blasting over 2.44m indoors this year, just to mistime the jump, they are looking like setting the bar even higher soon. High jump world records in my lifetime are about as rare as the England cricket team being the best in the world. Times are changing….. Enjoy this clip of the winning jumps and the 2.10m attempts.
