High Jump World Record Within Reach

Anna Chicherova the 29 yr old Russian jumper, originally from Armenia and coached by her father, won the Diamond league in Brussels. She cleared a world leading 2.05m and entertained the crowd with 3 great attempts and 2.10m, a new world record. This is a rare treat these days for jumps fans. Its been a few years since Blanka Vlasic had a go at 2.10m outdoors. She looked physically tired, with a very sore achilles and under performed in the same competition. The Bulgarian´s hold the record at 2.09m and with Russian´s Ivan Ukov blasting over 2.44m indoors this year, just to mistime the jump, they are looking like setting the bar even higher soon. High jump world records in my lifetime are about as rare as the England cricket team being the best in the world. Times are changing….. Enjoy this clip of the winning jumps and the 2.10m attempts.

Love reading your posts, Simon, but as a High Jump fanatic I can’t help pointing out the numerous errors made in this one.
    1) Anna Chicherova is originally from Armenia, not Albania.
    2) The current World Lead is 2.07m, not 2.05m.
    3) Blanka Vlasic did attempt the World Record last year, after clearing 2.05m at the Continental Cup in Split.
    4) The Women’s record is held by a Bulgarian, not a Russian.
    5) Ukhov attempted 2.44m several times indoors this year, not 2.46m.

William thank you for your corrections that I have added to the post. Thats what happens when I get over excited about a good high jump competition. Do you know what height Blanka attempted in Split? Do you think any of the world records will fall soon and to whom?
